A terrific 8 week summer program for your teen and it's free to boot! It features outdoor adventures, an Urban Eden Farm Apprenticeship and Green Career Training. Participants even get a modest stipend. The program begins July the 7th but interested teens and a guardian MUST attend an orientation, either on Tuesday the 16th at 7 pm or Thursday the 18th at 7 pm. The Census Bureau is looking for Census Takers, Office Clerks, Crew Leaders, etc. The pay ranges from $12.00 to $19.75 per hour.
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS, testing will be at 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm in Room 231 of Building V at Kennedy-King College, 747 West 63rd Street.
SATURDAYS, testing will be at 10:00 am & 1:00 pm in room 222 of Building V at Kennedy-King College.
Applicants must pass the WRITTEN TEST and a BACKGROUND CHECK as well as bring 2 FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION to the testing session. The Parkways Foundation has given over $200,000 to the Chicago Park District to Fund Day Camp Scholarships for the Summer!
On Thursday, March 18th, from 10am to 9pm and Saturday, March 20th, from 9am to 12 pm, parents can submit required paperwork to see if they qualify at designated "scholarship processing centers" at nine citywide parks. Applicants must bring copies of required documents to one of the following processing sites (click on the image to reach the printable pdf, listing the documents and the locations).

under the direction of Chicago's renowned jazz pianist, Mr. Willie Pickens!
Young Natives performs at the Sikia every third Friday of the month. Young Natives features some of the most talented youth in Chicago besides guest artists such as Chicago notable jazz trumpeteer Corey Wilkes—a long time friend of the Natives—and jazz pianist Ken Chaney as well as the Merit School of Music Honors Jazz Band.
Since January of '09, Urban Aspirations located its Young Natives Student Jam Sessions to the Sikia Restaurant, the upscale supper club operated by the students and staff of Washburne Culinary Institute.

The event is an outgrowth of the STABLE Project (Sustaining Together Basic Living Effort). On December 17th, Citibank presented a $50,000.00 contribution to Nobel Neighbors, a lead HUD approved counseling agency and community partners to provide foreclosure prevention assistance to CITI borrowers in targeted zip codes.
The STABLE Project was organized by the Monroe Foundation, a 20 year old non-profit community and enterprise development intermediary, which has put together a consortium of HUD approved housing counseling and foreclosure prevention advocacy groups that include: Partners in Community Building, Inc. (PICB), Westside Ministers Coalition Community Development Corporation (WMCDC) and the Monroe Foundation.

Just a reminder: Rep. Golar's General Assembly Scholarship is also available for any high school senior living in the 6th Legislative District. Fresh Taste/Urban Agriculture Meeting at 2:00 pm
Group sessions for teenage girls 14-16 who have experienced sexual abuse and/or sexual assault. Participants will use photography and poetry to promote discussion or shared experiences, challenges and hopes with others in a safe place. The group will meet Monday evenings for eight weeks. At the conclusion, group members will be able to exhibit their photographs and perform their poetry for family and friends.

A community forum for understanding the dangers of lead poisoning. Lead is a serious threat in the Englewood and West Englewood communities. It is vital that we as a community and our families within it educate ourselves about lead poisoning, its treatment and its prevention.
